NO PÚBLICO / NON PUBLIC

Portraits of anonymous individuals not only capture their external appearances but also conceal encrypted narratives within, creating a realm of hidden messages that delve into the depths of their intimate secrets. These portraits serve as vessels for encrypted imagery, utilizing the art of steganography to embed new layers of meaning beneath their serene facades.

Within these images lie a tapestry of concealed stories, encompassing a vast spectrum of personal experiences rarely brought to light. From unspoken desires that stir within their souls to haunting traumas that silently shape their existence, these encrypted narratives carry the weight of their untold tales.

What sets these portraits apart is the existence of a secret key, a password that grants access to this clandestine realm, unlocking the hidden dimensions of the depicted individuals' lives. With the appropriate passphrase, one can penetrate the veils of secrecy and unveil the profound intimacy captured within these portraits.

Steganography plays a pivotal role in this process, allowing the encrypted images to camouflage themselves within the visible layers, thereby shielding their true nature from prying eyes. Like whispers in a crowded room, these hidden messages nestle discreetly within the portraits, waiting patiently for those who possess the key to unravel their enigmatic codes.

In this fusion of art and encryption, these portraits become gateways to uncharted emotional territories, inviting viewers to explore the depths of human vulnerability and resilience. They serve as a testament to the power of hidden stories and the significance of safeguarding one's innermost self, while simultaneously challenging conventional notions of public and private spheres.

Through the enigmatic interplay of steganography and portraiture, these encrypted images transcend mere visual representation, becoming portals into the secret recesses of the soul. They remind us that beneath the surface of every individual lies a rich tapestry of untold experiences, waiting to be discovered by those with the key to unlock their encrypted truths.

Through this project I try to present a set of portraits where the identity of the photographed is subject to the perception of their gender, a genre that may not be entirely conclusive.

Today we live in a world where the lines that define identity through gender are increasingly diffused either by the appearance of new types of gender or as a fashion-inspired response that purposefully plays with ambiguity. With this set of parameters I intend to transfer this image of present-day society to portrait photography, minimizing the use of elements subject in fashion photography to present individuals who may make you question their gender through their image in a digital photograph.

I believe that digital photography is not an image in itself, it is a false photograph, it is built based on bits, where there are no tangible elements and there’s only information interpretable by different technological devices. All the images in the set are widely digitally manipulated, reaching the point that most of them are compositions of several portraits in which parts are used to build each one of them.

The people portrayed in this series do not exist and never existed, they are only their digital images, zeros and ones.

A Second Evidence

CORRUPTOS/CORRUPTED

Throughout history many artists have used the manipulation of the image as a creative resource, by transforming its base, burning it, cutting it, wetting it, etc.

Today, in the digital era , there's no physical hardware on which it sustains. Images can be printed, displayed in different devices or stored as files in many different ways where the image remains unchanged.

Digital image offers a new range of possibilities since it does not have a conventional support but a code that it is interpreted by a machine to be shown.

Corrupted is a metaphor for how reason alters vision. A metaphor of visual perception.

Sometimes, when a file is wrongly copied, when you have problems saving it, or when the hardware gets broken "corrupt" files show up. Files that many times can not be interpreted or have alterations that normally make us consider them invalid and discard them.

Using this idea, I insert in the image code words or phrases related to it that relate to my own experience and my relationship with what it represents. The insertion causes changes in the image, generating a "corrupt file". Although it is a controlled process, the results are random and make the image something unique, hard to be repeated. The words, as an element of reason, corrupt the image in order to show how it can be altered.

Cecilia M. Alonso "Visual perception is the interpretation of visual discrimination or external stimuli associated with the prior knowledge and the emotional state of the individual"

"Corrupted Women" is an autobiographical series where words are inserted as a reminder of the person who is photographed.

DIGITAL FAKES

We live in a digital world and contemporary photography is taking part in this fact. The vast majority of digital photographic images are now almost reaching 50 billion in 2013 when the early twentieth century barely reached a billion and in the 80's, 25 thousand.

Of those five hundred billion only four thousand are analog.

How authentic is a digital image? Is it a copy, or an original? The digital image is built out of bits, where there's no tangible information and it's only interpretable by technological hardware. Digital pictures are the paradigm of the contemporary world, a world of copies, intangibles and manipulated falsehoods.

The digital image is code , is not an image itself, it is a fake picture.

“Digital Fakes” set features covers of fake nonexistent magazines, made of calligrams based on the digital code of the image itself, false covers, false images generated with its own and unintelligible language.

Dfakes shows iconic pictures of the digital lie.

TWINS

1116/5000 "The face is the mirror of the soul," this sentence tell us that when we look to any person at the face almost immediately, almost unconsciously, we form a first opinion of it, almost like an imprint.

"Grapho intends to question our judgments based on the vision of the image."

Through the GRAPHO set portraited people replace their faces with a text written by themselves where they are described, either by adjectives or short sentences, so the spectator can get an idea of them through their written opinion. Also respects the form and the text, being literally their own words, their spelling.

The image may lie, may be uncertain, may give a wrong imprint of each of us or of what it represents by itself. The digital image can be even more misleading through manipulation but thanks to it we can question the perception that we have of the people around us. Through their words, their own calligraphy, they offer us their own vision of themselves.
